Jonathan Mitchell took a GT3 Legends victory at the Donington Historic Festival, winning Race 2 aboard the former The Racers Group Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3. Unlike the earlier race, where a post-race penalty denied him the win, this time the result was decided purely on pace.

The opening lap featured several spins, though without major damage. Mitchell made a strong start in his #007 Aston Martin, quickly establishing a lead ahead of fellow Aston driver Graham Davidson in the former Oman Racing #47 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3. Behind them, Danny Winstanley in the #78 Audi R8 LMS Ultra GT3 applied early pressure, while Charlie Kennedy aboard the #23 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 followed a few seconds further back.

Mid-race battle and decisive overtake

Davidson defended well throughout the first stint, keeping Winstanley’s Audi behind despite the latter appearing to have the stronger pace. However, Winstanley lost valuable time with a slower pit stop, which opened up a significant gap to Davidson, who had opted to stop early in the pit window.

In the final eight minutes, Winstanley’s superior pace became decisive. He closed the gap to Davidson and began applying sustained pressure. Exiting Coppice, Winstanley positioned his Audi on the inside line, and under braking for the chicane, he successfully completed the overtake to move ahead.

Aston Martin dominates historic weekend

Jonathan Mitchell controlled the race from the front in his Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 to secure Aston Martin’s second win of the weekend, while Danny Winstanley recovered from a slow pit stop in the Audi R8 LMS Ultra GT3 to pass Graham Davidson’s Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 late on for second.

Behind them, Charlie Kennedy took fourth in the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 ahead of Jeff Smith’s Audi R8 LMS Ultra GT3 and Craig Wilkins in the Lamborghini Gallardo GT3. Julian Thomas was the top Class B finisher in seventh with another Audi R8 LMS Ultra GT3, followed by Richard Neary’s Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. The Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 of Adam Balon and former Lamborghini factory driver Phil Keen and the Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 of Nick Maton and Jack Tetley completed the top ten.
