McLaren’s three-day development test of the MCL-HY Hypercar at Imola ran into trouble on the second day, when the session came to a halt after just three hours of running. The car stopped immediately after pit exit, before a group of engineers attended to it on track. It was restarted in place and crawled back to the garage under its own power.
Dries Vanthoor, Mikkel Jensen and Richard Verschoor had shared driving duties across the first two days of the test. Vanthoor and Verschoor are confirmed to have left the track, Gregoire Saucy is expected to also take the wheel on day three as McLaren continues to gather data ahead of their planned WEC Hypercar campaign.
No official word has come from the team on the cause of the stoppage.
