In a damp and wet Race 1 of the VP Racing Fuels SportsCar Challenge, Oscar Tunjo powered the No. 1 Gebhardt Motorsports USA Inc. Duqueine D09 to victory in the P3 class, while Westin Workman claimed GSX honors in the No. 8 RAFA Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2. Both drivers led from the first green-flag lap to the checkered flag, securing dominant victories at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
The race began under yellow flag conditions due to the wet track surface. When the green flag finally waved, the opening lap proved relatively uneventful, with little movement throughout the field and no significant incidents.
As the race progressed, the battles for the podium began to intensify, particularly in the GSX class. Ismaeel Ellahi, behind the wheel of the No. 25 CSM Porsche 718 GT4 RS CS, made a strong move around the outside of Courtney Crone’s No. 35 CarBahn Motorsports BMW M4 GT4 EVO in the Keyhole to take over third place in class.

In P3, Danny Soufi briefly applied pressure to race leader Oscar Tunjo, closing to within two seconds of his Gebhardt Motorsports USA Inc. teammate. However, Soufi was unable to maintain the pace and eventually fell back, allowing Tunjo to pull away and cruise to victory.
The battle for the final spot on the P3 podium also came alive in the closing stages. Lincoln Day, driving the No. 95 Toney Driver Development Ligier JS P325, found himself under attack from Travis Hill in the No. 2 Shopify Racing Ligier JS P325. The pair traded blows in a spirited fight for third before Hill ultimately prevailed, securing his first IMSA podium finish.
With the win, Workman continued his perfect season in GSX, claiming victory in each of the first five races of the year, while Tunjo earned his fourth win in five sprint races this season in the P3 category. Both drivers also extended their championship leads with the victories.
The final race of the weekend for the VP Racing Fuels SportsCar Challenge is scheduled for Sunday, June 7, at 7:55 a.m. ET. The race will air live on Peacock and stream globally on IMSA’s official YouTube channel and IMSA.tv.
