The Automobile Club de L’Ouest confirmed the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship schedule Friday during their annual press conference. The highlight of the reveal was the series’ return to Silverstone.
The global championship returns to “The Home of British Motor Racing” for the first time since 2019. Before then, Silverstone was an annual stop on the calendar since the current WEC’s birth in 2012. After 2019, ACO-ran series were a noticeable absence from the circuit. Then, the European Le Mans Series returned to the Northamptonshire circuit in 2025. After that race, talks grew louder on the potential return of WEC to the circuit.
Now, the rumors are reality as Silverstone is penciled in for a six-hour race on April 25 – the third round of the season.
Besides the Silverstone addition, there are no major changes. After this year’s rescheduling to October, Qatar will again open the season March 27. All other races will go in the same order as originally scheduled for 2026.
Critically, there are three clashes with IMSA. The traditional Prologue pre-season test will happen March 21-22, the days immediately after the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring. While not a direct clash, it will be highly uncomfortable for teams and drivers taking part in both championships. Secondly, the IMSA round at Detroit will be held the day before the Le Mans Test Day. Finally, the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo on July 11 will clash with the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park round.
