Major dominoes fell in the driver market Friday with Ford announcing at Le Mans that Tom Blomqvist, Nick Yelloly and Matt Campbell will join the brand for their FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar programme. All three drivers are regarded as top billing and will bring significant Hypercar experience to the table.
The Latest Porsche Defect
The 31-year old Campbell comes to Ford after over a decade with Porsche. The Australian started as a Porsche Junior and then developed into a full-fledged factory driver. Since 2023, Campbell has been a driver for Porsche’s 963 prototype program spending time in both IMSA and WEC.
Campbell had his greatest success at Porsche with good friend Mathieu Jaminet of France. The duo, affectionally known as Cam-Jam, won IMSA championships in GTD PRO in 2022 and GTP in 2025. This season, Campbell is serving in an endurance-only role with Porsche’s GTP program along with other global assignments across the brand.
From Acura’s Ashes
Blomqvist and Yelloly join in the aftermath of Acura pausing their IMSA GTP program after 2026. Blomqvist returns to WEC for the first time since a partial LMP2 campaign in 2023. The British driver with Swedish roots is as well-versed as they come. His resume includes DTM, TCR, Formula E and GT World Challenge.
Blomqvist has been a mainstay with Meyer Shank Racing in the United States since 2022. With the team, Blomqvist has scored two Rolex 24 at Daytona victories in addition to a IMSA DPi drivers championship in 2022. When MSR was away from IMSA in 2024, Blomqvist filled one of the team’s IndyCar seats. But lackluster performance saw him removed from the seat midseason. With MSR and Acura reuniting for 2025 in IMSA, Blomqvist returned to sportscars where he continues to shine.
Equally, his teammate from Acura Yelloly also brings a wealth of experience to the program. Yelloly was a BMW factory driver from 2018-24. His stint with the German marque included victories in the 24 Hours of Spa and 24 Hours of Nurburgring. When BMW entered the GTP ranks in IMSA in 2023, Yelloly was one of the brand’s original pilots. The Brit then moved over to Acura for 2025, which has seen him score two wins up to this point. However, unlike his teammates, this will be Yelloly’s first WEC program.
Formidable Group
Blomqvist, Yelloly and Campbell join Logan Sargeant, Sebastien Priaulx and Mike Rockenfeller. The latter were announced at Ford Racing’s season launch in January. Ford confirmed on-track testing for the Oreca-based prototype will begin in August. Furthermore, driver pairings will be announced at a later date.
