Flynt Schuring (19) grabbed his first overall Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup win in Barcelona. Starting from P5 on the grid, the 2025 rookie champion was unleashed and drove to P1. Both Martinet by Alméras drivers, Paul Cauhaupé and Theo Oeverhaus drove to the podium, securing valuable points for the championship.

Schuring was disappointed after the qualifying session on Saturday under the blistering Spanish sun, where a technical issue prevented him from further improving his time. The pace was obviously there, but he had to manage to drive to the front of the field in the race from P5. He soon realized he had a joker for the race: two new sets of tyres.

As a result, he was the only one in the top four starting on fresh rubber. To get to the front, he had to overtake pole sitter Keagan Masters, Cauhaupé, Oeverhaus and GP Elite’s Wouter Boerekamps. During the first phase of the race, the young Dutchman already managed to overtake his compatriot for P4.

Boerekamps unfortunately lost some ground in the first lap of the race, having received some pushes from the cars around him here and there, resulting in him getting overtaken by Dirk Schouten and Marcus Amand. While the broadcast focussed on the fight between Schouten and Amand, Schuring started to look for opportunities to overtake Oeverhaus.

Schuring charges to the front

On fresher tyres he capitalized the possibilities and managed to pass one of the green Porsches of the French outfit. Meanwhile it was carnage in the back of the field – a crash involving guest star and 1997 Formula One world champion Jacques Villeneuve and Liam McNeilly. Villeneuve’s car was visibly damaged while McNeilly was stuck in the gravel.

The race was temporarily neutralized by a safety car, allowing the marshals to get the car out of the gravel and to clean up the debris on track. It took them about four laps to do so, as the safety car went back to the pitlane at the end of lap six. Masters pulled away at the right time, but was only able to shake off Cauhaupé for a couple of corners.

Schuring meanwhile found a gap at the outside of Oeverhaus. Determined and in control he overtook the German driver, continuing the charge to Cauhaupé. The rookie in the #16 Porsche didn’t plan to make it easy for Schuring, but the 19-year-old was simply faster and kept his car firmly next to Cauhaupé’s while going for P2.

It took only two more laps for Masters to be under pressure of Schuring. The two cars were nearly glued together while racing onto the pit straight again. Masters was able to shake off a first attempt, but Schuring remained close to the South African. The two of them managed to pull away slightly from the others, but the gap wasn’t safe.

Masters gets handed a five-second time penalty

The weekend of 2025 vice champion Robert de Haan went from bad to worse, as he pulled into the pitlane in lap ten to retire the car. He came back this year to fight for the championship with BWT Lechner after missing out on just a couple of points in the 2025 fight with Alessandro Ghiretti. The youngster unfortunately suffered technical issues after already having a difficult qualifying day.

On track, Schuring got an overtake done on Masters and kept the pedal to the metal to shake off Masters and the two drivers in the green Porsches. Within a lap, Schuring managed to pull away a second. Race control delivered good news for him, Cauhaupé and Oeverhaus meanwhile, as Masters received a five-second time penalty for track limits.

With how close they were at the front of the grid, Masters would drop out of the top three. Not taking any risks, the two drivers behind him just had to stay within five seconds and they would go to the podium. The fight for the win was already over, but in the midfield there was a firm duel going on with Andrea Bristot and Alexander Tauscher.

The Italian rookie, who delivered a standout debut in Monaco, fought hard for the overall P10. He kept his car firmly in position, but Tauscher still managed to sneak by. Bristot still takes the P2 for the rookie podium.

Schuring takes first overall win

For Schuring it was a special day in Barcelona, which marked his first overall Supercup win. Last year he already impressed with his results as a rookie, but the second race of the 2026 Supercup season shows he’s ready to take on the grid for the overall championship. On the podium he was joined by rookie Cauhaupé and Oeverhaus.

Both drivers of the Martinet by Alméras squad impressed. The young Frenchman got his first overall podium and added a rookie win to that, with Oeverhaus – who won in Monaco – delivering a steady race for valuable championship points.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season continues in two weeks, on the Red Bull Ring during the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix.
