The IMSA VP Racing Fuels SportsCar Challenge schedule has been unveiled for 2027, featuring seven multi-class race weekends and a return to a full-season endurance format.
After splitting its schedule in 2026 between dual-race sprint weekends for the P3 and GSX classes and standalone P3 endurance events under the Airbnb Endurance Challenge on non-IMSA weekends, the series will return to a unified format in 2027.
Competitors will contest races ranging from 90 minutes to three hours throughout the season. Five of the seven events will be held alongside USAC race weekends, while Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Lime Rock Park will serve as the only rounds supporting IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge weekends.
The Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3) category will once again headline the field, although all competitors will be required to compete with third-generation homologated LMP3 chassis powered by Toyota’s V35A 3.5-liter engine. Joining the prototype ranks will be the Grand Sport X (GSX) division, featuring GT4 machinery, while the third class will consist exclusively of BMW M2 race cars.
The BMW M2 category was announced this year for Airbnb Endurance Challenge competition but has yet to attract any entrants. Meanwhile, the Grand Touring Daytona X (GTDX) class, which debuted last season for GT3 machinery, has been removed from the series’ class structure for 2027.
Two drivers per car are required, and each entry must include at least one driver with an FIA Driver Categorization of Bronze or Silver. Platinum-rated drivers are prohibited from competition, while Gold-rated drivers may only be paired with Bronze-rated co-drivers. Silver/Gold pairings are not permitted.
The 2027 season opens at Sebring International Raceway on Feb. 26-28 with a two-hour race alongside a USAC weekend. A second two-hour event at a to-be-determined venue will follow.
The series then joins IMSA for the first of its two weekends alongside the sanctioning body at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on June 11-13, marking the penultimate two-hour race of the season.
The halfway point of the campaign brings one of the longest races on the calendar, as Watkins Glen International hosts a three-hour event alongside USAC on July 2-4.
The three classes will then head to Road America for the final two-hour race of the season on a date to be announced. Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta hosts the final three-hour race of the year alongside USAC on Sept. 10-12, before Lime Rock Park concludes the reformatted season with a 90-minute finale on Sept. 23-25.
Each race weekend will feature a 50-minute practice session followed by two 15-minute qualifying sessions, one for the P3 field and another for the GSX and BMW M2 competitors.
Driver and team championships will be awarded in all three classes, while a manufacturer championship will be contested in GSX. The GSX drivers’ champion will also receive a $50,000 IMSA scholarship.
Bronze-rated drivers will compete for dedicated Bronze Cup podiums in every race, as well as the season-long Airbnb Bronze Cup in all three classes. The LMP3 Airbnb Bronze Cup champion will earn an invitation to compete in the following year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona. Entries must include a single Bronze-rated driver to be eligible for Bronze Cup points.
