The VP Racing SportsCar Challenge heads to Virginia International Raceway for the final two race weekends of the 2026 season, with the GSX class set to take on a solo-class weekend at the circuit.
Following last weekend’s P3-only finale of the Airbnb Endurance Challenge, the prototypes will get the weekend off after their visit to Road America, leaving an eight-car field to make up the GSX class at VIR.
Westin Workman continues to lead the GSX championship aboard Rafa Racing’s No. 8 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, holding a 400-point advantage over second-place Courtney Crone, who drives CarBahn Motorsports’ No. 35 BMW M4 GT4 EVO.
Workman has dominated the GSX season, winning the first seven rounds of the championship. However, during the final race of the weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), Workman encountered car troubles that forced an early retirement and brought his winning streak to an end.
Despite the setback, Workman’s sizable points advantage built during the opening rounds provides a comfortable cushion as he enters the final stretch of the season.
Other notable entries include Jon Brel in the No. 81 Kingpin Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2. Brel and the team will pull double duty at VIR, with Kingpin Racing also participating in Saturday’s Michelin Pilot Challenge event. Workman’s Rafa Racing teammate, Rafa Martinez, will also return in the No. 68 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 and enters VIR third in the championship.
Two entries from CTMP will not return for this weekend’s event at VIR.
Justin Di Benedetto, who drives the family-owned No. 4 Di Benedetto Racing Porsche 718 GT4 RS CS, is absent from the entry list as the team continues repairs on its car following CTMP.
Ismaeel Ellahi, who drove CSM’s No. 25 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 Evo to victory at CTMP, will instead join Morgan Burkhard in CSM’s second Michelin Pilot Challenge entry on Saturday. The team has made a full-scale switch from Porsche to Aston Martin machinery between races and will continue with the new platform moving forward.
The two-race VP Racing SportsCar Challenge weekend kicks off Saturday, August 22, with Race 1 scheduled for 12:20 p.m. ET. Race 2 will take place Sunday, August 23, at 8:40 a.m. ET. Both races will be broadcast live on Peacock, IMSA.tv and IMSA’s official YouTube channel.
