Circuit Paul Ricard saw the go-ahead of the 2019 International GT Open season with two sunny race days. Emil Frey Racing welcomed its new Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo with wins in both races to start the season with a perfect weekend.
On Saturday, Albert Costa and Giacomo Altoè crossed the finish line in first position. The team took the lead of the race early on by forcing itself past the number 10 SPS Automotive Performance Mercedes-AMG GT3 and never looked back. The Teo Martín Motorsport McLaren 720S GT3 driven by Martin Kodric and Henrique Chaves finished a close second, while the team’s second McLaren of Fran Rueda and Andrés Saravia came home in third, scoring a remarkable double podium for the brand-new car.
In race 2 it was Mikael Grenier and Norbert Siedler’s turn to race their Lamborghini to victory after a chaotic start of the race that saw both McLarens eliminated. Second place was finally assigned to the Antonelli Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Daniel Zampieri and Alessio Rovera in front of the SPS AMG driven by Miguel Ramos and Fabrizio Crestani after a 5-seconds post-race penalty imposed on to the German team for pushing the Antonelli AMG wide in the closing laps, switching second and third place in favour of the Antonelli squad.
The new GT Cup Open Series also saw a double triumph for Lamborghini as the brand took the two race wins with Vincenzo Sospiri Racing in race 1 and Antonelli Motorsport in race 2.
