The Australian Racing Group and SRO Motorsports Group have finalised the 2021 Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS calendar. A second race at The Bend Motorsport Park has been added, and the date for the Bathurst International 3-hour race set for 26-28 November.

Six events make up the inaugural season of the GTWC Australia championship, with the sprint and endurance races making up their own championships.

Sprint races will be run over the length of 60 minutes with two races per weekend. Phillip Island, Mount Panorama, The Bend and Sandown host the four sprint race weekends of the GTWC Australia, making up the Motorsport Australia GT Championship. These races are for up to two drivers per car.

The second part of the 2021 season sees GTWC Australia teams fight for the Motorsport Australia Endurance Championship. This series makes return trips to The Bend in October for a 3-hour race followed by a 3-hour enduro in November at Mount Panorama.

Motorsport Australia awards official championship titles to the winners of the Am and Pro-Am classes in both sprint and endurance championships.

“The finalised calendar for the inaugural Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS has been well received by competitors and circuits, so we are looking forward to kicking off the season at Phillip Island next weekend,” said category manager Ken Collier.

“The mix of sprints and longer endurance racing was very important for the competitor base. This is what they wanted to see included in the championship, so it’s great that we’ve been able to deliver.

“The mix of circuits has also received a great response. Two trips to Bathurst, two trips to The Bend plus Phillip Island and Sandown are ideal venues for the GT cars. It’s a terrific result.

“We are looking forward to publishing our entry list early next week and, personally, I’m excited to see what ARG’s new venture with SRO Motorsports has in store for 2021 and beyond.”

Twenty cars are expected to enter the opening round of the GTWC Australia held at Phillip Island next weekend.
