Audi Sport Italia is doubling its numbers in the Italian GT Championship this season. The Piedmont-based team enters a second Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo in the Sprint and Endurance championships.

Not since 2017 has the team of Emilio Radaelli and Roberta Gremignani brought a second car to the races.

While the team awaits the arrival of its new Audi, the ‘old’ one was out and about last week at Vallelunga in a test organised by Audi Sport Customer Racing. No drivers have been announced yet, however, Mattia Drudi was at hand to test the car at Vallelunga. The Audi works driver contested selected races with the Italian team in 2020.

Commenting on the addition of a second car, team principal Ferdinando Geri said: “I think we did a great job to double Audi Sport Italia’s commitment on the track, in difficult moments like these, I believe that is already a success. I cannot name the drivers yet; however, I can confirm that both crews will have first class drivers.”

The two Audis will carry numbers 12 and 14, a reference to when the team made its winning debut in the Campionato Italiano Superturismo in 1994 with two Audi 80 Competitions driven by Emanuele Pirro (#12) and Dindo Capello (#14).

The 2021 Italian GT Sprint season is set to kick off at Monza from 30 April – 2 May, followed by Misano (4-6 June), Imola (3-5 September), and Mugello (8-10 October).
