Giancarlo Fisichella, Arthur Leclerc, and Tommaso Mosca have officially been declared Italian GT Endurance GT3 champions following the withdrawal of an appeal by Vincenzo Sospiri Racing (VSR). The Scuderia Baldini Ferrari team, racing in a Ferrari 296 GT3, initially claimed victory in the final race of the season in Monza, though the championship outcome remained uncertain pending two appeals by VSR.
VSR, competing with a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 team (Cazzaniga, Di Folco, and Liberati), initially contested the results but later formally rescinded their appeals with ACI Sport’s Appeals Court. This decision solidifies the Ferrari team’s win in both the Monza race and the overall GT3 championship standings.
With this result, the 2024 GT3 title goes to Fisichella, Leclerc, and Mosca, securing Scuderia Baldini’s position at the top of the Italian Gran Turismo Endurance Championship.
The final standings of the Italian GT Endurance Championship’s concluding race at the Monza circuit would remain undecided, as the overall GT3 title was put on hold due to an appeal. The Ferrari team of Giancarlo Fisichella, Arthur Leclerc, and Lorenzo Mosca initially crossed the finish line first in their Ferrari 296 GT3, securing the provisional championship. However, the Vincenzo Sospiri Racing (VSR) team filed two appeals against the race stewards’ decisions, delaying the championship title’s confirmation until the ACI Sport Appeal Court issues a ruling.
Fisichella, Leclerc, and Mosca led for most of the three-hour race, holding off strong competition from the VSR Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 teams, including the crews of Cazzaniga-Di Folco-Liberati and Zanon-Stadsbader-Michelotto. Despite VSR’s appeals, all other Italian titles for this season were awarded. Gilles Stadsbader clinched the GT3 PRO-AM title, while the GT3 AM title went to Colavita, Riccitelli, and Ulrich.
The appeals by VSR focused on two incidents. The first was a time penalty awarded to Ferrari for a chicane cut, which did not alter the race result, and the second involved a late-race collision between Ferrari driver Mosca and VSR’s Guidetti. The latter complaint was dismissed on procedural grounds.
With a highly contested title still undecided, this finale was one of the closest races of the season.
