After a captivating start to the 2025 British GT Championship at Donington Park, this weekend sees the arrival of almost half-a-dozen extra GT3 entries to add extra intrigue to the blue-riband Silverstone 500.

21 entries make up the top class, most notable of which is the return of Ferrari to the grid for the first time in a good few years as three examples of the 296 line up for the three-hour enduro. The first is a full-season entry, with Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin starting their campaign for Spirit of Race, having had to miss the Donington opener because of a clashing European Le Mans Series race in Barcelona.

The team enters a second car in an eye-catching tropical livery for Marcos Vivian – experienced in Ferrari Challenge UK – and Francesco Castellacci, who is vastly experienced in developing Ams looking to race a prancing horse.

The trio is concluded by Kessel Racing, with Andrew Gilbert and Fran Rueda – more familiar to regular sportscar watchers as having pedalled McLaren machinery in the past – making their British GT return having competed in last year’s Silverstone 500.

Elsewhere, there’s a second Blackthorn AMR Aston Martin Vantage as team owner Claude Bovet – who’s tackled a few British GT races of his own – partners with Charles Bateman. The pair raced together in the recent Asian Le Mans Series campaign.

Adding some variety to the grid is the return of the four rings. Steller Motorsport, GT4 winners in 2023, brings its Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO II out for Matt Topham – who subbed in for the injured Rob Collard at Barwell for the Donington race – and Darren Burke, who has coached Topham in the past and was rapid in GT4 in recent seasons.

Most intriguing of the newcomers, and the one who could easily walk away from Silverstone with their names on the RAC Trophy – again – is Paradine Competition. Run by Century Motorsport, the Paradine squad is 2023 British GT champion Darren Leung’s racing outfit and he’s back to engrave his name on the trophy once again alongside regular team-mate Dan Harper. The pair will be in a familiar BMW M4 GT3, upgraded to Evo spec.

Century will be running a second BMW as Will Moore – more known for his exploits in an Academy Motorsport Ford Mustang – reunites with the team he races for in GT World Challenge Europe. The M3 will have Jon Kearney as the designated Am in what is a big step up for the Irish racer, with his previous experience predominantly coming from various Ginetta championships alongside a one-off in the 24 Hour Series.

Bigger than the one-off entries, though, is the news that reigning champion Collard is making his return in-time for the 180-minute race. Having had to miss the first round because of an unforeseen medical procedure, Rob will be back alongside Hugo Cook in a Barwell Motorsport Huracan GT3 Evo2.

There’s changes in the sister car too, as Sandy Mitchell will be missing this round because of other commitments. In his place, Patrick Kujala will be making a British GT return alongside Alex Martin.

GT4 is the same as it was earlier in April, with this being the last round for the GT4 Endurance Cup entries until the championship’s annual summer trip to Spa in June.

The Silverstone 500 takes place on Sunday 27 April, with the three-hour race starting at 12.30pm UK time (1.30pm in Europe) and you’ll be able to watch all the racing on GT REPORT!.
