Wayne Taylor Racing’s dominance of the series continues…

The 2025 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America championship convened at Weather Tech Raceway Laguna Seca for Rounds 3 & 4 of the season. Nick Persing in the #8 Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) Huracan stole the show taking victory in both races over the weekend. But, as always, there is plenty more to the story for the Boise State University student.

Race 1

Persing’s teammates, and Sebring winners, Danny Formal and Hampus Eriksson in the #1 started Saturday’s race from the pole. After leading the majority of the first 40 minutes, the pair looked on their way to their third straight win. Of those 40 minutes, the first 15 were behind the safety car after various incidents on the opening lap left vehicles damaged and stopping in unsafe areas. After the pitstop cycle at the race’s midway stage, where Formal handed over to Eriksson, the #1 cycled back to the lead and proceeded business as usual.

But with 9 minutes to go, Eriksson exited Turn 11 slow. Mechanical problems crippled the #1 and were forced to retire, handing the lead to the #29 TR3 Racing entry of Elias De La Torre. But for De La Torre, the lead would not last. With 6 minutes to go, Persing took the lead with a dive-bomb move into Turn 11 on De La Torre. Things would go from bad to worse from De La Torre crashing from 2nd with 2 minutes to go, forcing the race to finish under the safety car. Elsewhere, victory in the Pro-Am category went to the Flying Lizard Motorsports #14 of Andy Lee and Slade Stewart. David Staab for Precision Performance Motorsports topped the Am category while One Motorsports driver Nick Groat won the LB Cup category.

Race 2

Persing would start Sunday where he finished Saturday – at the front, from pole position. While Persing would grab and lead and control the majority of Sunday’s 50 minute race, the same could not be said for Nick Groat. Saturday’s LB Cup winner had a Sunday to forget with 2 spins in the first half of the race taking him out of contention. Back in Pro, Persing’s biggest challenge for most of the race would be the #22 World Speed entry of Scott Huffaker and Jaden Cartwright. But after pitstops, their quest for victory would come undone as Cartwright earned a penalty after an incident with #68 of Cameron Lawrence. The penalty would put Persing’s teammate Danny Formal into second place.

Formal was closing the gap to Persing when two safety car periods in the final 15 minutes would bunch the field up. The latter safety car was cleared with enough time for a 2-lap sprint to the finish. With Persing driving defensive to keep Formal at bay, Formal saw his opportunity come out the final turn. A side-by-side drag race down the front stretch to the finish line saw Persing hold off his teammate by six one-thousandths of a second in a photo finish. In addition to a 1-2 finish in the Pro class, Wayne Taylor Racing took victory in three classes for the second time this season. Brendan Leitch and Anthony McIntosh emerged victorious in Pro-Am while Graham Doyle and Glenn McGee won the Am class. Lastly, Rafa Racing score the class win in the LB Cup with driver Rocky Bolduc.

The drivers and teams of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America resume their season June 19-21 at Watkins Glen International for Rounds 5 & 6 of the season.
