Four of IMSA’s support series hit the track Wednesday to open day one of the 12 Hours of Sebring weekend, with Michelin Pilot Challenge, Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, Porsche Carrera Cup North America and Mustang Challenge North America all on track for practice, and in Mustang Challenge’s case, qualifying.
In Michelin Pilot Challenge, Matheus Leist paced the GS field in the No. 7 VPX Porsche 718 GT4 RS CS with a 2:09.622, while Franco Girolami went fastest in TCR aboard the No. 99 Victor Gonzalez Racing Cupra Leon VZ TCR with a 2:12.205 in the series’ lone session of the day.
Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America saw Hampus Eriksson top Practice 1 with a 2:00.669 in the No. 1 Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo2, while Will Bamber paced Practice 2 with a 2:00.599 in the No. 29 TR3 Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo2.
In Porsche Carrera Cup North America, Jared Thomas led Practice 1 with a 2:01.076 in the No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering Porsche 911. Tyler Maxson was quickest in Practice 2 with a 2:00.775 in the No. 77 Topp Racing Porsche 911.
As for Mustang Challenge North America, Will Lucas led Practice 1 with a 2:13.501 in the No. 34 Wheelhouse Motorsports Ford Mustang Dark Horse R before Cole Loftsgard went quickest in Practice 2 with a 2:12.564 in the No. 42 Round 3 Racing Ford Mustang Dark Horse R, then backed it up by claiming pole position with a 2:12.662 for Thursday’s season-opening race.
Mustang Challenge will be the first of the support series to race Thursday, with Race 1 scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET. Porsche Carrera Cup North America follows with Race 1 at 3:00 p.m. ET, while Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America closes out the day with Race 1 at 6:05 p.m. ET. Michelin Pilot Challenge teams return Thursday for Practice 2 at 8:00 a.m. ET and qualifying at 2:10 p.m. ET.
