Peter Posavac is set for a nostalgic return to the Nürburgring 24 Hours, bringing the beloved BMW Z4 GT3 back to the Nordschleife in 2026.
Koopman Racing to run historic BMW Z4 GT3 entry
The car will be run by Dutch team Koopman Racing, with an initial outing planned during ADAC RAVENOL Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) NLS3 ahead of the 24-hour race. The project adds another chapter to Posavac’s long-standing presence at the Nürburgring, where he has competed for many years, while also marking another significant step for Koopman Racing as it continues to expand its GT3 programme.
Fan-driven comeback sparks ‘Zetti’ revival
The comeback was sparked by fan demand. Posavac launched a Facebook challenge following a recent test with the Z4 at Circuit Zandvoort, promising to revive the ‘Zetti’ if his post reached 5,000 likes — a target that was quickly surpassed.
“You guys are completely crazy! I expected some support, but this is truly overwhelming,” he wrote. “I’ll get to work right away, there’s not much time left. The guys at Koopman Racing are already excited. I’m really looking forward to our joint project and to hearing the sound of the Zetti at NLS3 and at the 24-hour race.”
Former Marc VDS chassis returns to the Nordschleife
The chassis set to be used carries significant history, having previously been raced by Marc VDS Racing at the 2015 24 Hours of Spa. Its return also comes six years after the end of the model’s homologation, making the entry a rare sight in modern GT3 racing.
“The real heart of motorsport”
For Posavac, the return of the Z4 GT3 is more than just a one-off project. The car holds a special place in his career, having been his first GT3 machine and a constant presence throughout his racing journey.
“I fell in love with it,” Posavac said in a previous interview. “It has a V8 engine, which I think is the best thing you can drive at the racetrack. It gives you that special feeling as if you’re driving a go-kart because the car is so short. It’s so aggressive and tricky to drive — that’s what I love about motorsport.”
Even after newer GT3 machinery arrived, Posavac remained closely attached to the Z4, continuing to race it at the Nürburgring until homologation ran out after 2019.
“This car is real race car driving, for me this is the real heart of motorsport.”
BMW Z4 GT3 revival grows with second Nürburgring 24H entry
Interestingly, Posavac is not the only one bringing the Z4 GT3 back this year. Saugmotoren Motorsport recently announced its own Nürburgring 24 Hours entry with the same model — coincidentally a car that was previously owned by Posavac — adding further presence for the fan-favourite machine on the 2026 grid.
Together, the entries mark an unexpected revival for the BMW Z4 GT3, returning one of the most characterful cars of its generation to the spotlight at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
