Juha Miettinen has died following a serious multi-car accident on lap two of Race 1 at the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers. The 66-year-old was competing for Keeevin Motorsport in the #121 BMW 325i.
The Finnish driver was extricated from his car by rescue crews after the incident at Klostertal, which involved seven cars. Despite the immediate response and continued efforts from medical staff, Miettinen passed away in the medical centre after resuscitation attempts proved unsuccessful.
Six other drivers were taken to the medical centre and nearby hospitals for precautionary checks, with no life-threatening injuries reported.
The race has been abandoned and will not resume on Saturday. A moment of silence will be held ahead of Sunday’s race in memory of Miettinen.
