Thomas Preining secured pole position for DTM Race 1 at Oschersleben after setting a lap time of 1:21.862 in the closing minutes of Qualifying 1 aboard the #91 Manthey Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R.
With around two minutes remaining, Lucas Auer briefly held second place in the #22 Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, while Maro Engel was third in the #80 Mercedes-AMG Team Ravenol Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo. Ben Dörr in the #25 Dörr Motorsport McLaren 720S GT3Evo then improved to move into the top positions, before Luca Engstler put the #130 Abt Sportsline Lamborghini Temerario GT3 into second on his final lap. Engel finished the session in third.
Auer qualified fourth, followed by Ben Dörr in fifth. Jules Gounon secured sixth for Mercedes-AMG Team Mann-Filter ahead of Mirko Bortolotti, Matteo Cairoli, Timo Glock and Tom Kalender, who completed the top ten.
Following the session, the #3 Schubert Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 Evo of Kelvin van der Linde and the #130 Abt Sportsline Lamborghini Temerario GT3 of Luca Engstler were noted for an alleged impeding incident involving the #48 Mercedes-AMG Team Mann-Filter Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Jules Gounon and the #84 Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Tom Kalender. The incident remained under investigation after the session.
Race 1 is scheduled to begin at 13:30 CEST.
