The Asian Le Mans Series unveiled their schedule for the 2026/27 season and it will look VERY different. Due to the conflict in the Middle East, there has speculations for weeks Europe would host the series. The rumors were finally confirmed with Monday’s announcement.
Since the COVID pandemic, the majority of the Asian Le Mans Series has been run in the United Arab Emirates. The country’s two FIA Grade 1 circuits, the Dubai Autodrome and the Yas Marina Circuit, have been hosting events since 2021. The nation, hosting the championship exclusively through 2023, had weekends of two 4-hour races on successive days. When the championship returned to a winter schedule for the 2023/24 season, the UAE races were joined by the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
The series, organized by the ACO and promoted by SRO, notated the decision was made based on key factors. One factor is the few numbers of Asian circuits available to host a race in the series calendar window. Another big factor is ensuring the calendar would not clash with January’s Daytona 24 Hours nor February’s Bathurst 12 Hours.
The season will start in November with a weekend at Circuit Paul Ricard in France. After the holiday season, the championship will convene in Spain at the Jerez Circuit in January. Finally, the championship will move west across the border to Portugal for a weekend at Portimao in February. All weekends will have two 4-hour races.
The Asian Le Mans Series has a lot to look forward to this season. Highlighting the anticipation is the debut of a Pro-Am Hypercar category. There will also be the introduction of the support Asian Le Mans Cup for LMP3 and GT3 machines. They will run two-hour races alongside the four-hour races of the main series.
