Kelvin van der Linde and Charles Weerts lose their pole position for Race 2 of the GT World Challenge Powered by AWS Sprint Cup at Magny-Cours. The technical delegate of SRO Motorsports concluded the car did not conform to the rules.
After the post-qualifying 2 technical scrutineering, car WRT car #32 was found to be overboost. All of their laptimes in the second qualifying session of the weekend were deleted, resulting in a disqualification. Van der Linde initially put the car on pole with a margin of over two tenths.
The pole position is inherited by the #7 Aston Martin of Comtoyou Racing. Nicki Thiim was the second fastest Pro car. Christopher Haase and Simon Reicher will now start in P2. A bitter pill for Weerts and Van der Linde, who didn’t have a good Saturday in Magny-Cours either.
Sprint Cup Championship is fully open
Speaking to GT REPORT after qualifying, Van der Linde emphasized that the pole position was important because of the standings in the Sprint Cup – where he and Weerts are leading. With WRT experiencing this setback, the fight of the title is fully open while the season reaches it’s final phase.
