One of Mazda Motorsports’ 1989 767Bs, the No. 203, caught fire yesterday at the Rolex Pre-Reunion at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, leading up to this weekend’s Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, August 12-15.
Video surfaced of the iconic green-and-orange-liveried, four-rotor prototype on fire in its pit stall, with staff quickly reacting to the scene and extinguishing the blaze. The entry is scheduled to compete this weekend in the Hurley Haywood class, which features 1981-1991 era IMSA GTP and FIA Group C entries.
The car, along with other classic Mazda prototypes, is owned by Mazda Motorsports and has competed in various vintage racing events around the world. Brendon Leitch is listed as the driver for the No. 203, while Anthony McIntosh is listed as the entrant for the event.
There are currently no details regarding the extent or cause of the damage, or whether the car will be able to compete following the fire.
