After four races in the inaugural IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge’s Airbnb Endurance Challenge, Lincoln Day and Wyatt Brichacek, aboard the No. 95 Toney Driver Development Ligier JS P325, secured the final two-hour P3-only race of the season at Road America, along with the endurance championship.
The first half of the race was dominated by Oscar Tunjo, who paced the field from the drop of the green after claiming pole position for the championship-leading No. 1 Gebhardt Motorsports Duqueine D09. However, after the halfway point, disaster struck Tunjo and the No. 1, with the car sent into the tire barrier at Turn 9, ending the day for the team’s dominant season-long effort.
The incident brought out the full-course yellow, the lone caution of the afternoon, allowing the field to regroup. With several drivers and teams still needing to make pit stops, Wyatt Brichacek was able to take over the lead in the No. 95 following an early stint from Lincoln Day that kept the car in podium contention.
Brichacek held on to score the race win and, with the result, secure the Airbnb Endurance Challenge championship after entering the weekend third in the standings.
Joining Brichacek and Day on the podium was their Toney Driver Development sister car, the No. 30 Ligier JS P325, driven by Garett Grist and Ari Balogh. Forbush Performance, which ran toward the tail end of the field early in the race, charged through the field following its pit stops to claim third with Matt Forbush and Jules Caranta aboard the No. 18 Duqueine D09.
“It feels really good,” Nathan Toney, team owner, said. “We knew we had what it took, but we had a couple unfortunate races. We didn’t know if we’d be in the championship. I’m so proud of all the guys. It’s our first full year in any level IMSA series, so it’s pretty surreal. I owe everything to the guys. They bought into the system.
“The endurance stuff is the only one we had a full-season entry, as in sprints, we’ve had drivers in and out,” he added. “Endurance is where we shine. Right drivers. Right strategy.”
All four P3 races that comprised the Airbnb Endurance Challenge, including Sunday’s season finale, also count toward the overall VP Racing SportsCar Challenge championship alongside the sprint races.
Although the Airbnb Endurance Challenge has now concluded, the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge continues its 2026 campaign this weekend at Virginia International Raceway, with a GSX-only round. The P3 class will return for the final sprint races, along with the GSX class, at Road Atlanta in late September.
