Thomas Kiefer: “Everything went well at the start. The Hyundai TCRs were really fast in the opening laps and I was a bit blocked by the KTM but managed to overtake him in the first lap so I could follow the TCRs and gain back a bit on them. I think I was running in third in the second starting group.

“The conditions were mixed and very difficult. We didn’t get the tyres to working temperature so we were struggling in the wet, but I think everybody had problems with that. I could gain a little bit and make up some positions before handing the car over to Smudo.

“Now I’m just waiting. My next stint comes at 1 o’clock, I think, and it might be a double stint in the wet. So far, so good! We’ll see what we can do.”
