2020 Italian GT Sprint championship runner-up Marius Zug has announced he is returning with BMW Team Italia. The 18-year-old driver from Pfaffenhofen in Germany, will share the BMW M6 GT3 with his teammate Stefano Comandini.
“I am very happy and proud to be a part of this great family this year again,” said Zug. “The motivation and the expectations are high to push ourselves even further together this season.
“I can’t wait to kick off the season with my wingman Stefano Comandini at Monza on 1 May.”
2020 saw a breakthrough season for the young German following a second-place championship finish during the 2019 ADAC GT4 Germany series. Zug started his Italian GT career in exceptional fashion during the opening round of the series, with a second-place finish at the endurance round from Mugello after an astonishing wild finish. Despite winning only one race, the Ceccato Motors Racing Team-organised team remained in the title hunt until the last round with a strong performance throughout the year.
The 2021 Italian GT season is set to kick off at Monza with its Sprint series rounds from 30 April-2 May.
