In celebration of Porsche Motorsport’s 75th anniversary, its Formula E program has unveiled a special livery for the brand’s home race in Berlin, paying tribute to the iconic “Pink Pig” design from the Porsche 917/20.

The Porsche 917/20 was a one-off prototype created by Porsche in collaboration with French aerodynamics specialist SERA (Société d’Études et de Réalisations Automobiles). Given the car’s unique characteristics—especially its pronounced front nose—it earned the nickname “Pink Pig.”

The No. 23 entry, driven by Reinhold Joest and Willi Kauhsen, qualified seventh for the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, the iconic machine failed to finish the race due to brake failure.

The livery later saw a modern revival on the No. 92 Porsche 911 RSR at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans, driven by Michael Christensen, Kévin Estre, and Laurens Vanthoor. In contrast to its predecessor’s misfortune, the reprised design went on to claim a GTE Pro class victory.

This weekend, Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller will carry their version of the “Pink Pig” design on the Porsche 99X Electric in Berlin. Wehrlein, the Season 10 champion, already has a race win for the program this year, taking victory in Round 4 at Jeddah. The German will look to extend his championship lead across Rounds 7 and 8, while Müller aims to remain within striking distance in the title fight.

Meanwhile, beyond Formula E, Porsche Penske Motorsport is also honoring a historic design this weekend at Laguna Seca, with its two Porsche 963 LMDh prototypes running a livery inspired by the legendary Apple Porsche 935 K3.
