BRDC Classic Preview: Historic racing returns to Silverstone with GT3 Legends

Classic motor racing returns to Silverstone this weekend as the inaugural BRDC Classic hits the track. Headlined by Motor Racing Legends’ GT3 Legends and the brand new Endurance Icons series alongside almost a century of motor racing legends all taking to the track from 24 to 26 July.

First and Final Outings

GT3 Legends are back in action after a weekend in the Spa-Francorchamps sun for the final outing of their three-weekend season. Classic & Speed’s former Marc VDS Racing BMW Z4 GT3 piloted Marcus von Oeynhausen is looking to carry the momentum from his significant race 2 win in Belgium whilst Danny Winstanley aims to finish the season on a high after his 65-second penalty for speeding in the pitlane last time out – which dropped him from first all the way to seventh.

Amongst the other frontrunners, Jonathan Mitchell and Graham Davidson are also back to duke it out with their Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3s, while other familiar names from contemporary GT3 racing such as Phil Keen and Richard Neary are also on the grid. Especially Keen’s car will see a lot of interest: Top Gear’s Stig will get behind the wheel of the unique 8.0-litre V8-engined Reiter Camaro GT3. Neary, meanwhile, brings his elegant Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3. United Autosports brings a McLaren MP4-12C GT3 for team owner Zak Brown.

The weekend marks Jimmy Broadbent’s GT3 Legends debut, as the YouTube superstar will be driving the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3.

Endurance Icons debuts this coming weekend, bringing together multiple classes from different eras of endurance racing on track. This brand new series features Endurance prototypes from the likes of Le Mans and Daytona 24 hours, alongside FIA GT Championship cars with the entries ranging from 1994-2015.

22 cars are set for the inaugural race, including a Bentley Speed 8, Zytek 09S, Cadillac Northstar LMP, Audi R8, and even a 1995 Porsche 993 GT2R. BTCC champion and recent GT3 convert Jake Hill will race one of two Nissan GT-R GT1s, bringing some serious talent to the weekend.

A plethora of historic cars from all motorsport disciplines will also be tackling the 5.891km Grand Prix layout. Pre-War Sports cars showcase perfectly preserved machines from the 1920s and 1930s whilst GP Icons bring the roars of Formula One’s Golden Era back to life with single seater machinery from the 60s to the 80s.

Meanwhile off track, fans can find huge displays of historic cars, historic kart racing and live music with Martin Jackson and Midnite Special headlining Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Catch All The Action

All 3 days of track action will be live on the Motor Racing Legends YouTube channel, with Friday consisting of mostly Qualifying while Saturday and Sunday are dedicated to a whopping 12 hours of racing combined.
