Oliver Rowland continued his storybook 2025 season on Sunday with his fourth win of the year in Nissan’s home race on the streets of Tokyo.

Rowland mounted a strong charge to reclaim the top spot late in the race, making a decisive pass on Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein with only a few seconds left in attack mode.

Wehrlein, along with Kiro’s Dan Ticktum and McLaren’s Taylor Barnard, mounted a strong push to challenge Rowland with just five laps remaining. However, contact involving Barnard sent him into the wall, bringing out a full course yellow and giving Rowland the opportunity to defend his lead with only one lap to go.

With Barnard shuffled out of the four-way battle, Dan Ticktum was able to secure his first-ever Formula E podium. It was a stellar weekend for the British driver, who had a shot at pole for Round 9 and even found himself in a potential race-winning position at times.

The defending champion, Wehrlein, took home the silver spot on the podium and remains in the hunt for the championship—though Rowland’s lead is beginning to look insurmountable as the season passes its midway point.

While seven races still remain, Rowland’s championship advantage is beginning to look comfortable. Unlike in past seasons, where the title fight went down to the wire, Rowland now has a real shot at sealing the championship before the finale in London—and with the way things are going, that just might happen.

Formula E returns to action in two weeks as the series heads to Shanghai before entering the final three race weekends of the season.
