A 17-car field heads to Laguna Seca for Rounds 3 and 4 of the 2026 Mustang Challenge North America season, as Cole Loftsgard looks to continue his perfect start in the No. 42 Round 3 Racing Dark Horse R in the Dark Horse (DH) class.
Loftsgard currently holds a 60-point advantage over Wheelhouse Motorsports’ Michael Tosi in the No. 77 entry. The two drivers finished 1-2 in the recent rounds at Sebring, which marked a relatively tame start to the season, and will look to continue that trend as the DH title fight begins to intensify.
In the Legends category, Alex Bachoura claimed victory with Spark Performance in the No. 33 entry at Sebring. However, with Bachoura and his wife expecting their first child, the current championship leader is absent from this weekend’s entry list and for the foreseeable future. His absence opens the door for the Legends championship battle to tighten significantly.
Tom Tait and Chris Clarke are currently tied for second in the standings with 620 points following podium finishes in both races at Sebring. Both drivers will look to gain the upper hand in the championship this weekend, while Paolo Salvatorre aims to close the gap in his privately entered Torre Racing Dark Horse R.
Among the 17 entries this weekend, notable names include Ford CEO Jim Farley, who makes his second consecutive Mustang Challenge start following his run at Sebring. Farley holds a season-best finish of 13th overall and 10th in the DH class.
Joining the field, Nolan Allaer will pilot the No. 3 entry for Spark Performance. The former Indy NXT driver with HMD Motorsports currently competes in the Formula Regional Oceania Trophy with Giles Motorsports. Allaer also appeared on a sportscar weekend prior to Laguna Seca, driving a now-defunct open-wheel ChampCar entry at Historic Sportscar Racing’s The Mitty.
The first race of the weekend is scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at 11:50 a.m. ET, with the second race set for Sunday, May 3 at 12:30 p.m. ET. Both rounds will be streamed live on IMSA’s YouTube channel and Peacock.
