To continue Porsche’s 75th anniversary celebration in motorsports this year, the brand’s factory Formula E program unveiled a special livery honoring the iconic Rothmans Porsche colorway for this weekend’s pair of races at the Formula E season finale, the London E-Prix.
The primarily blue-and-white livery draws inspiration from the color scheme and styling of several successful Porsche race cars from the 1980s, according to the brand’s official release.
Among the cars honored is the Porsche 959, which won the 1986 Paris-Dakar Rally. In circuit racing, the Porsche 956 and Porsche 962 C are also represented, with the white-and-blue Group C sports prototypes each claiming two overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 956 won in 1982 and 1983, while the 962 C captured overall honors in 1986 and 1987.
The fitting tribute to two of Porsche’s most successful sports cars also ties into the Porsche 99X, the official name of the brand’s Formula E car, which is the German manufacturer’s most successful single-seater in history. This weekend’s pair of races will mark the 99X’s final starts in Formula E, as the series transitions to its all-new Gen. 4 car next season.
The revitalized livery is one of several special tributes throughout the 2026 season, with Porsche honoring many of its legendary cars and designs across the 75-year history of the brand’s motorsports program. Two weeks ago, Porsche unveiled special liveries for its Penske Motorsports entries at the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Road America, honoring the Sunoco-liveried 1973 Porsche 917/30 on the No. 6 and the 2000s-era Porsche RS Spyder on the No. 7.
Earlier this season in Berlin, Porsche Formula E Team also paid tribute to another iconic design, featuring the famed “Pink Pig” livery on its pair of 99Xs.
Porsche will look to complete a clean sweep of the 2025-26 Formula E championship titles this weekend after securing the Manufacturers’ Championship at the previous round in Tokyo. Porsche Formula E Team sits 2nd in the Teams’ Championship standings, while Porsche satellite team Andretti Formula E Team’s Jake Dennis, the Season 9 champion, enters the London finale leading the Drivers’ Championship.
