Honda Racing USA (HRC) announced on Thursday they will run a special livery in IMSA. Meyer Shank Racing’s No. 93 Acura ARX-06, driven by Renger van der Zande and Nick Yelloly, will run a “Thank You” tribute scheme. Honda confirmed the livery will run for the final two races at Indianapolis and Road Atlanta. The scheme is to commemorate the brand’s ten-year run in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.
Acura’s IMSA Exploits
This chapter of IMSA racing for Acura began in 2017. Particularly, and fittingly, it was with Meyer Shank Racing entering a pair of factory-supported NSX GT3s in the GTD class. A year later, the brand expanded into the DPi class with Team Penske campaigning a pair of ARX-05s. When Penske left Acura after 2020 to reunite with Porsche for the new prototype regulations, two teams replaced them. In 2021, Meyer Shank Racing returned to prototypes and Wayne Taylor Racing moved over from Cadillac to field the cars.
Meyer Shank Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing remained with the brand through the transition to the GTP/LMDh regulations starting in 2023. For 2024, Wayne Taylor Racing ran both ARX-06s before returning to Cadillac for 2025. Meyer Shank left IMSA for a year after 2023 only to return and run both cars for 2025 and 2026. When the team returned in 2025, the No. 93 car was crewed by HRC staff and mechanics.
Furthermore, customers ran the Acura NSX in the GTD class through the 2024 season – when Honda ceased factory support for the platform.
By The Numbers
Altogether, the brand has earned 43 pole positions, 33 wins and 14 total championships. Highlights include victories in the 2024 12 Hours of Sebring and a further three wins – all in succession – at the Rolex 24 at Daytona from 2021-23. The 2023 Rolex 24 victory is distinct as Acura scored the first win in the GTP era.
Acura will pause its IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar program at the end of the season.
