Stefano Comandini’s victory in Race 2 of the Italian GT Championship (CIGT) Sprint at Imola carried more meaning than most.
Just months ago, the two-time Italian GT champion had been close to stepping away from racing altogether before a late call from Best Lap brought him back to the grid. At Imola, that unexpected return turned into a win — shared with longtime friend and teammate Vito Postiglione.
“Winning this with Vito — that’s actually the most beautiful part,” Comandini said after the race. “We were quite emotional because it really means a lot. We’ve been close for a long time and share an incredible bond, so that made it even more special.”
The result was built on a strong team performance and a composed drive through a disrupted race, but for the 58-year-old from Rome, the trust within the car was just as important.
“The car was working perfectly and the team did an outstanding job all weekend. Vito gave me a lot of advice because I’m still getting used to the car, but with him, I have complete confidence. When he’s in the car, I’m completely relaxed. I know he’ll bring it back in perfect condition, as if the tyres were still new.”

Beyond the sporting result, however, the victory also carried a deeply personal meaning.
“I actually want to dedicate this to my uncle, who is no longer with us. He passed away last Tuesday, and we held the funeral on Thursday. This one is for him.”
At Imola, a return that almost never happened turned into a moment Comandini will not forget.
