Ben Tuck: “I just did my first couple of laps today in the night stint. Just two laps to make sure I’m qualified on the car, and we had to do the same for David and Jogi – Jörg Müller – as well.
“It was just a couple of laps in the dark and it was really nice, it felt good. It actually felt better than I expected, to be honest, because it’s been a while since we drove the car, and last time in the night I actually struggled with vision, but maybe that was just the lights in the M4 compared to the M6. This time I felt, I felt good and happy to push. And obviously Christian had already done a super-fast lap so there was no pressure on me to push too hard, I could just cruise and race-stint kind of laps with old tyres, medium fuel, that sort of thing – so nothing too crazy, nice to get my eye in.
“It’s a huge-huge honour for me to be in this car to be with this driver group. David and Christian are two of the absolute fastest guys on the Nordschleife. And then one of my heroes, Jörg Müller, it’s absolutely crazy that I’m now actually sharing the car with him. He was my engineer last year and before that he was one of the guys I was watching when he was doing World Touring Cars. Crazy, and I’m really happy to be sharing this with them.
“So far, we’re OK – we’re in the top ten in the times thanks to Christian’s lap. For us, because we had a bit of a rubbish 6-hour Qualifying Race with the gearbox issue, we’re not directly qualified for the Top Qualifying, so we have to make sure that we’re now good in these early qualifying sessions so that we can get into the Top Qualifying shoot-out. That is our priority for now, and hopefully with Christian’s lap and our sectors we should be in for the Top Qualifying.”
